This project uses survey data collected from community college international educators to achieve two objectives:
- To document how community colleges financially support study abroad participation
- To explore associations between financial support models for study abroad and the percentage of students who participate.
This project’s data was collected between April and June 2025 from representatives of colleges in our Mapping Community College International Education dataset that offer study abroad. We received responses from 71 survey participants (21.9% response rate), although not all participants answered all the survey questions.

Financial Support for Community College Study Abroad: Strategies and Participation
Study abroad has often been recognized as a high impact learning practice, yet students often cite affordability as their reason for not pursuing these international experiences. Funding limitations are particularly relevant in the community college context, where broad access to international education is a core value. This report documents how community colleges financially support study abroad participation and explores possible associations between financial support models for study abroad and student participation.
